The new school was designed to (1) provide space for achieving educational excellence; (2) assure successful transition of students from middle to high school; and (3) integrate vocational and academic programs.

The school has a capacity of 600 students and is built on an 85-acre site with separate building wings to accommodate classrooms, labs, art, music, vocational agriculture, and teacher planning. Central spaces include the library, commons, administrative offices, gymnasium, and forum/auditorium.

New athletic facilities include a football field with seating for 2500, baseball field, softball field, track, tennis courts, restrooms, and concession building.

The Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) has honored the school as the 2002 High School of the Year Award Winner in its annual Architectural Design competition.
